Poll Question:
Indiana General Assembly is working on House Bill 1213
A watered-down version of a statewide smoking ban passed the Indiana House on Tuesday (Feb. 17, 2009), but its proponents vowed to pressure lawmakers in the Senate to strengthen the bill.
As introduced, House Bill 1213 would have banned smoking in all workplaces across the state, but the version that passed the House includes exemptions for bars, casinos, horse tracks and off-track betting parlors.
HB 1213 would require casinos to set aside 20 percent of their space for nonsmokers and would allow nursing homes to have smoking areas. Restaurants that serve alcohol would have to prohibit customers younger than 18 if they choose to continue allowing smokers, or else ban smoking outright.
The measure now moves to the Senate after the 70-26 House vote.
Our question: How does this affect you? Tell us if you are a smoker or not, and what you think of House Bill 1213.

| The law is fine as long as they do not ban it in the bars. |

| Every one has the right to smoke or not. If someone does not like the smoke they can leave. If a place want to allow smoking they should allow it.Smoking in bars should not be allowed! The government is putting so many restrictions on what we can and cant do. Its getting stupid! What happened to listening to the people un this country and what they have to say? |

Why is it so hard for smokers to understand that just because they made a conscious decision to poison themselves, that the rest of us shouldn't have to tolerate avoidable sickness from their lack of care for healthy living. As for government control, get used to it. We keep electing politicians with agendas and not real everyday americans who would simplify a lot the messes were in with some common sense. |

| Smokers have just as many rights as nonsmokers. Nonsmokers forget that and push there agenda's. If you don't like the smoke WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN A BAR? |

Remember how antiabotionists carried on. Well Rowe V Wade decided in the end that abortion was legal. It is a woman's right to have an abortion. In the end smokers will still be able to smoke, because the government and big business will prevail. The government wants the taxes from a pack of cigs.
If smoking ceases then all you anti smoking people are going to have to help make up for the tax loss. Goody Goody. I hear there is a rumor about taxing sweets, that can be just as life threatening. And what about all the casual use of street drugs maybe someone should put an end to the drug lords who push drugs. People should quit whining and look at the big picture. |

We elect politicians with money, big money. Money runs the world. Fat cats rule little cats. As is said in Indiana, "You get as much justice as you can afford". Where's the democracy? WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!

| These smokers that are whining about this law passing, and thinking it's all non-smokers making this decision, seem to not realize that some of the law makers pushing for this law, smoke themselves!!!! Do your homework before you open your mouth! By the way, I love to shoot pool and if I don't like the smoke in the place we are shooting I do my best to avoid it. Oh, did I mention that I use to smoke. Yes I did and I also made a decision to quit. It was expensive ($1.75 a pack) and it was bad for my health. If you want to smoke then go ahead, kill yourselves, just don't expect me to do it with you!!! One more thing, making a decision to smoke does not give a person the right to do it wherever he/she wants to. |

| Communism: did I spell that right. If I own a bar and have a liquor license that cost me a pretty penny. I'll shoot heroin in it if I want to. (not a suggestion). Karl Marx would be proud of our state governments. |

| I understand that there is a michigan law that will take effect in May that WILL ban smoking in any public facility, bars included. This will hopefully not effect our pool league. |
